The Canadian Law Review Quarterly

The Canadian Law Review Quarterly (informally, The Quarterly) is a legal publication dedicated to advancing accessible legal scholarship and discussion. We publish four issues a year comprised of three, four-month standard issues and one summative special issue.

The Quarterly publishes analytical essays, case notes, legislative commentaries, historical context for legal issues, explanatory articles, or opinion pieces on legal issues. Selected contributors work with a dedicated team of editors over the span of four months to improve the analytical depth and quality of writing prior to publication. Submissions are open to all; whether you’re a current undergraduate student, pursuing law school, and practicing lawyer, or an independent writer, we invite you to share your work with us.

THE CANADIAN LAW REVIEW

The Canadian Law Review Quarterly is a division of the Canadian Law Review. Whereas the Annual Canadian Law Review Journal offers experience in a traditional academic publication setting, the Canadian Law Review Quarterly prioritizes clear, public-facing legal writing across a wider range of formats and a greater diversity of contributors. Alongside our steady rhythm of publication, we aim to sustain meaningful, accessible, and intellectually vibrant discussion on the legal issues that shape our world.

The Canadian Law Review Quarterly previously operated under the name Canadian Law Review: The Brief.

The Quarterly's second issue, Interjurisdictional, highlights the tension, overlap, and cooperation between national, international, and extraterritorial legal systems. It ties together legal challenges that transcend borders, prompting readers to consider how laws interact across boundaries, and how legal systems must evolve to address shared global problems in interconnected legal spaces.

The Quarterly's inaugural issue, The Legal Odyssey: Exploring the Law,  explores a vast sea of legal areas and focuses on the legal philosophies present across these bounds of the law. This Legal Odyssey will voyage across the areas of criminal law, contract law, criminal procedure, human rights law, and Indigenous law. We welcome you to The Odyssey and wish you a safe journey.
