SENIOR EDITORS

Position Description

Senior Editors are responsible for overseeing the editorial integrity and scholarly quality of the Canadian Law Review's publications. Working closely with the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team, Senior Editors manage the peer-review process from submission to publication, provide substantive feedback to authors, and ensure that all published work meets the CLR's standards of academic rigour and originality. Senior Editors also play a mentorship role, guiding Associate Editors and Junior Research Fellows in developing their editorial and research skills.

Application Requirements

To apply to be a Senior Editor at CLR, you must have at least completed high school and are either: ​​

  1. Currently enrolled in a JD, LLB, or LLM program at a Canadian or international law school, or a recent graduate (within two years)

  2. Prior editorial experience, whether at CLR (minimum one term as Associate Editor) or at another peer-reviewed journal, law review, or academic publication

  3. Demonstrated ability to provide substantive editorial feedback on legal scholarship

  4. Strong understanding of Canadian legal systems, legal research methodology, and academic citation standards (McGill Guide)

  5. Ability to commit approximately 8-10 hours per month to CLR responsibilities

Responsibilites

(a) Lead the peer-review process for assigned submissions, coordinating reviewer feedback and communicating editorial decisions to authors. 
(b) Provide substantive and line-level editorial feedback to authors, guiding revisions from draft to final publication
(c) Oversee and mentor Associate Editors and Junior Research Fellows, ensuring consistency in editorial standards across the team
(d) Review and approve final manuscripts prior to publication, ensuring accuracy in citation, formatting, and compliance with CLR style guidelines
(e) Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief on editorial strategy, including thematic direction, special issues, and publication timelines
(f) Contribute to the development and refinement of CLR's editorial policies and submission guidelines
